Before we left Jordan, we hiked one of the most beautiful places on EARTH --- Petra!  Petra is in the southern  part of  Jordan.  It takes about 3 - 4 hours to get there from Amman, but it's definitely worth the drive.  Of course, you have to get up bright and early (bus leaves at 6:30 AM) - but it was worth that too.

The Treasury at Petra was featured in a little movie you might have heard of: Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.  It was built around 6th century B.C. and has been a UNESCO World Heratige Site since 1985.  This site was unknown to the Western world until 1812, when it was introduced to a Swiss explorer.

This is what you see on the three hour drive to Petra.

Once you get to Petra, you have to buy tickets and head to the entrance.  From there, you've got about an hour hike on The Siq... which is the gorgeous trail that leads to the city carved out of rock.  The hike is just as amazing as what you see in the end.

Getting ready to start the hike!
It's so pretty!  And this is just the beginning :o)

There's a seperate path for horses.
 Wandering around!

I think this is like a "gutter" in the water system.

The Treasury!
Can you believe this was carved by hand!?

 The views just keep coming.

 The ampitheater.
 These are tombs.

We took a horse carriage ride back and I fed our horsie an apple :-)
