Looking forward to: finding out the gender.... in a month

I had a whole plan as to how I was going to tell some of my dearest friends about the baby.  I was going to have them over for dinner.  Well, the day before our dinner date, they BOTH happened to show up and visit me at work.  I just couldn't keep it a secret any longer.  I'm so blessed to have such supportive and loving people in my life!

Here we go!

This year Michael and I hit the ages that we agreed we would like to have our first baby.  Of course, just because you want something at a certain time—doesn't mean it will happen as planned.  In Nicaragua, there was a false alarm when I thought I might be pregnant and wasn't.  The next couple of months... nothing.  So I was actually quite surprised on December 18th when I took a positive pregnancy test.  I had taken a negative test earlier in December because (sorry if this is TMI), but my boobs were all sorts of HUGE.  Out of no va voom!  So, negative test... I figured I was not pregnant.  Au contraire!

I took the positive test two weeks later while Michael was out and about—so before he came home, I wrapped the test up and put it in a box.  He was so mad when I gave it to him because we had agreed not to buy each other Christmas gifts.  I insisted that I didn't spend any money on it and finally persuaded him to open it.  I can't remember his exact words, but he was sooo excited and surprised.  And typical for Michael—he went straight into planning mode.  Like...every overwhelming detail you could imagine.

We were so excited, but we had planned on going to a party that night at a friend's house and had to go play it cool.  It's so hard to keep it a secret at first, but then you get used to it.  It's been a challenge to discretely stay away from the wine and champagne during Christmas and New Years. I don't think that anyone has caught on!

Last week, we told our parents and siblings...and Michael's co-workers.  He and I were supposed to lead a trip to Benin in West Africa this July, but it comes way too close to my August due date for Michael to consider going without me.

That's right—August 17th according to the online due date calculators.  My birthday is August 16th.  Michael's is the 28th AND our wedding anniversary is August 1st.  AUGUST!!!

So until August, I figure I better do some writing so that I can remember this fun season of life!

How far along? 9 weeks tomorrow
Total weight gain/loss: not sure, maybe 1 lb....maybe.
Maternity clothes? no, but my normal clothes don't feel good (although my body hasn't changed much).  I only want to be in stretchy and soft clothes.
Stretch marks? No
Sleep: Great except for much more frequent bathroom visits.  These days I can barely stay awake past 9:00.
Best moment this week: hearing that my nephew said that he finally gets "real" cousins haha
Have you told family and friends: immediate family only
Miss Anything? being able to sleep through the night without going to the bathroom
Movement: no
Food cravings: fruit, cheese, bread
Anything making you queasy or sick: no sickness, but I don't crave dark chocolate anymore (which is normally my favorite)
Have you started to show yet: not really, but I feel bloated all the time
Gender prediction: Boy
Labor Signs: No
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or moody most of the time: Happy with a chance of tears.  Every now and then I get overwhelmed and cry about something.
Looking forward to: Announcing it to the entire world  : )

10 Weeks

I got back into working out this week!  : )

Please pardon my gym's ugly mirror.

I am very fortunate not to have any nausea, I'm not too terribly tired most of the time, and I haven't had any extreme food aversions.  My sense of smell has been pretty sensitive lately.  A lot of things smell stronger or just gross.  We live an a 135 year old definitely has its special aromas.  My kitchen especially smells unappealing to me.  Then this week, Michael opened a nasty metal container of fish, fried it on the skillet, and left the empty (stinky) container in the trash.

It reeked.  The fishy steam from the skillet had wafted around the whole house.

I came home and seriously thought that an animal had died under our house.  The smell was so bad.  I can't get the smell off of my cast iron skillet, and I have tried to get the kitchen smelling clean and fresh, but the fish smell still lingers.

How far along? 10 weeks today...11 weeks tomorrow
Total weight gain/loss: not much, maybe 1 or 2 lbs
Maternity clothes? no, but I continue to choose comfortable stretchy stuff

Have you told family and friends: immediate family only
Miss Anything? feeling slim and trim
Movement: no
Food cravings: fruit, strawberries, Annie's bunny crackers (like crack to me), and sweets.  I am normally so disciplined about sweets, but I have lost all willpower lately.
Anything making you queasy or sick: nope
Have you started to show yet: not to the untrained eye, but I feel much bigger around the middle than normal
Gender prediction: Boy?....but then again.... could be a girl.  No idea.
Labor Signs: No
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or moody most of the time: Moody.... due to circumstance, not hormones.
Looking forward to: First doctor appointment next week
